How Proctosedyl works
The ointments and suppositories contain both cinchocaine as well as hydrocortisone. The cinchocaine is a type of local aneasthetic, which essentially blocks nerve messages from the area where pain is experienced from being relayed. Using cinchocaine can therefore offer immediate relief from haemorrhoidal itching and pain.
The second ingredient, hydrocortisone is a natural steroid and therefore aids to stop inflammation. Inflammation of blood vessels in the back passage is what causes the most noticeable pile symptoms and happens as a result of pressure. This pressure causes irritation and this irritation stimulates an immune response causing tissues to become inflamed. Hydrocortisone stops the release of these chemicals by the immune system.
Who can use it?
Most patients over the age of 18 can use this medication if they require relief from the symptoms of haemorrhoids, although it will not be prescribed to you if you are allergic to the active ingredients in this medicine or you are currently experiencing severe bleeding from the anus. Using Proctosedyl ointment and suppositories
