Efracea is a type of oral medication that commonly comes in the form of capsules that is taken to treat Rosacea. Inside this medication is a low dose of an active substance known as Doxycycline. Doctors commonly prescribe Efracea to reduce symptoms such as inflammation, pimples, spots, veins, and red bumps that occur on the skin and face due to Rosacea.
How it works
Rosacea tends to be a lifelong skin condition that fluctuates between being inactive and active. To help deal with this long term condition, the low dose of Doxycycline inside the capsule is released slowly, causing a steady anti-inflammatory effect on the body. Doxycycline helps calm the skin, reduce redness and irritation on the face and skin.
Dosage information
You should only take Efracea if you’ve been prescribed it by your doctor. Most doses come in 40mg modified release capsules and users are advised to take each morning. Always stick to the prescription guidelines given by your general practitioner. If you take more than the recommended dose, consult advice from your doctor immediately.
How to use
You should take this medication on an empty stomach with a full glass of water, no food. Preferably you should take it one hour before eating or two hours following your meal. You should never crush the tablets and avoid taking them within a close time frame of milk or antacids, as this can decrease the effectiveness of the medication.

- Treatment for heartburn or ulcers.
- Antibiotics can limit the effectiveness.
- Sleeping pills and seizure medication. It can decrease the amount of time Efracea remains in your system.
- Diabetes or blood-thinning medication. Your doctor may have to change your dose.
- For women who are taking the contraceptive pill, its effectiveness might be reduced.
If you take any products, supplements, or medication containing calcium, aluminum, sucralfate, iron, magnesium , bismuth, activated charcoal, and cholestyramine, speak to your doctor first. Taking these at the same time may reduce the effectiveness of Efracea.
